| 1단계 | 사춘기 이전의 고환, 정낭의 크기와 거의 같다 | 사춘기 이전의 음경의 크기와 거의 같다 | 아직 나지 않았다. |
| 2단계 | 전단계보다 고환과 정낭이 더 커진다. 정낭의 피부색이 더 짙어진다 | 전단계보다 음경의 크기가 조금 더 커지던지 커지지 않는다. 평균나이는 11.4세이고 (9.5-13.8세) | 음경의 기부에 가는 솜털이 나기 시작한다. |
| 3단계 | 고환과 음낭이 전단계보다 더 커진다. | 음경이 전단계보다도 더 커지고 주로 길이가 더 길어진다. 평균나이는 12.9세 (10.8-14.9세) | 음모수가 많아지고 더 길어지고 곱슬곱슬하기 시작한다. |
